8 Weeks Post 60DWCC - Long Live Our New Found Hobby

So another week has flew by, what's all the time gone to? For us, we spent quite a bit of time pursuing our new found hobby - playing slot machines. Online.

While it does suck up our precious time, THL and I find that the game is exhilarating, especially when you get a huge BIG WIN prompt. :)

Day 110 - Saturday

The day was spent going out with THL's family. We visited Changi City Point as well as getting some stuff from some of the exhibitions at Singapore Expo. We all had lunch at the Prawn Noodle restaurant.
As we have an appointment with a long time friend of mine, the 3 of us left early and took a train down to Pasir Panjang Station. We had our dinner at Pasir Panjang Food Centre and as usual, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves devouring the satay, BBQ wings and Zi Char foods that we ordered. My friend gave us a lift home after that. What a sweet and kind gesture from him! :)

We spent the evening watching some boring TV shows while playing our beloved Slots Paradise games.

Day 111 - Sunday

RK and I left for a jog to Chinese Garden early in the morning. We went home just in time to eat breakfast prepared by our beloved THL. :)

We set out to Jurong Point after our lunch at one of the nearby coffeeshop. We bought some stuff some Popular, Robinson and NTUC. We later had a little bit of dessert at Durian Empire.

In the evening time, we had fruits for dinner and THL cooked noodle for RK. Watch the funny yet exciting Hangover III DVD with THL while playing Slots Paradise.

Day 112 - 116 ~ Monday to Friday

We got our air conditioner serviced on Tuesday as it is no longer blowing out any cold air and with the weather getting warmer everyday, it is therefore a top priority to have the air-conditioner fixed.

On Thursday, our stupid son RK spun his head endlessly at one of the playground after our session of soccer and freebies. And guess what happened after that, he was so dizzy he has to go to bed early after dinner. Serve him right for performing such act of stupidity. LOL!

On Friday, I got another complaint against RK from his Chinese teacher. RK has not been doing his corrections and homework given to him for a few weeks hence the teacher got no choice but to call the parent. I gave RK a big piece of my mind when he came back home in the afternoon. I also made him finish up all the outstanding homework and corrections.

Friday evening, we meet up with my parents and had dinner at IMM. We ate at one of the recently shrunken Taiwanese restaurant. The food is average but the price is slightly above average.

Transport Expenses:

Like I mentioned last week, I will only be updating the transport expense at the end of each month now. March just ended and the figures are out. We spent around $140 in terms of transport expenses for the month of March.

Weekly AfterThoughts:

The long awaited news regarding the adjustment to COE premiums, loan terms and interest rates have not been favorable hence we will just have to hang on and continue our now more than 60 days without car challenge. :D

7 Weeks Post 60DWCC - A Super Busy Week!

Time flies. In a blink of an eye, RK's one week holiday is over and I did not realize the impact of having him around the house for an entire week until I started planning my work on the next week. OMG! I was pretty much unproductive this whole week (with RK lurking around in the house) and I have only completed a very small portion of my project work. It looks like the week ahead is going to be tough as I will have to speed up and make up for the loss time.

Day 103 - Saturday

The 3 of us went out to the food market at Jurong East for breakfast and we took a bus to IMM after that. The intent for going to IMM is to get another standing fan for the house in preparation for the hot and humid summer days that is coming our way. Sometimes I wonder if what would have happen to people like us living in Asia had the man who invented air-conditioner & fridge failed to invent them after all. Would we be submerging ourselves inside the water a.k.a swimming pools all day long during hot summer days? :D

After a quick lunch at the foodcourt at IMM, we took a bus back home. I managed to get some work done in the afternoon after we washed up.

Today also marks the day the 3 of us started playing Slots Paradise - another app game from within Facebook. The game was easy to play, the leveling up was quick and the graphic for the bonus games look great. Will THL and I get hooked and play this game everyday? Time will tell. Let's see. I must say it has a really close similarity to those slot machines inside casinos.

Day 104 - Sunday

After breakfast, the 3 of us went for a morning stroll at a nearby canal early in the morning. This is the first time the 3 of us have ever gone for a morning walk and RK really did enjoy himself. He even tried out all the exercise equipment from the exercise corner. We went back home around 930am as it became hotter.

After our lunch (prepared by THL), we watch quite a few series of Heels to Wheels on M1Box. They even have a website at http://www.heels2wheels.tv/. The variety show features the visiting of various interesting spots in Taiwan. I manage to do a bit of work in the late afternoon with RK watching his favorite TV show.

I went for a run in the evening and had something light for dinner. I have lost about 4 kg some far since selling away our SUV and I have decided to keep at it. Another 8 KG to go and I would have hit my ideal weight. 加油!

Day 105 - 109 ~ Monday to Friday

The entire week was mostly spent catching up with my project work although I still managed to leave aside sometime to spent with RK. Coaching and managing RK's school work has inevitably consumed a huge chunk of my time during weekday afternoons.

We have most of our dinner at home during the weekdays with the exception of Friday which we went out to Westgate for dinner. We visited the Westgate Wonderland at Westgate and RK had a great time there, sweating himself out like nobody's business.

THL and I have started to spend more and more time play Slots Paradise and now even RK is using his own Facebook account to play the game. I think it is a healthy game so long it does not involve financial spending of any kind.

Transport Expenses:

Instead of hours collating the detailed transport expenses on a daily basis, I have decided to just announce the monthly expenditure on transportation on a month by month basis. I will be showing the figures for March in next week's update.

Weekly Afterthoughts:

This week have been tedious in the sense that I have had lots of work to catch up. I did manage to finish up what I needed to finish and still have spare time to spend with RK and our new found hobby - Playing Slots Paradise. LOL!

These days, expenses on transportation are at a minimum and hence I have decided not to spent the extra hours trying to tabulate every single cents spent. Unless there is an abnormally huge expenses, I will only share the figures once a month i.e. the last week of every month.

6 Weeks Post 60DWCC - An Unproductive Week - Guess Why?

Next week is the one week school holidays (one that I honestly do not look forward to) and while it is all good for RK, it certainly has the opposite effect on me as I will not be as productive as I could be - with him lurking around at home, waiting to pound on me anytime. LOL.

 Day 96 - Saturday

Thanks to the small meals and heavy lunch that we had yesterday at City Square - JB, I had to go for run (to Chinese Garden) to help trim off all the "extra" carbos. As it was RK's birthday today, THL and I decided to spoil him with some surprises today.

First off, we made our way to Sentosa after taking a ride from Uncle Jim's van. He was kind enough to offer us a ride to Vivocity. From there, the 3 of us took the monorail from Vivocity to Beach Station inside Sentosa. From there, we took the free tram ride to Palawan beach to walk the Southern Bridge.

After that we took another tram ride to the nearby beach for RK to indulge himself with sand castle building and running around the water adventure fountains.

After all the fun at Sentosa, we took the monorail back to Vivocity for lunch at Paradise Dynasty. The Tim Sum there was delicious although the price is a little on the high side. After lunch we walked and shopped around for a bit before taking Bus 166 to Dover and switch over to another connecting bus to Buona Vista Station.

From there we took a train down to Holland Village. THL and I initially wanted to have dinner at one of the restaurants there but we could not find one that suits our appetite at that point in time. So in the end we took a taxi home and THL made us some finger foods as dinner while watching our favourite Korean drama series.

Day 97 - Sunday

The weekend morning was spent staying at home enjoying a slow breakfast and watching Korean drama series. At around 1pm, we left the house to have lunch at BurgerKing - Jurong Point before taking a bus to my parents' place. We stayed for a while and left for JEM at 7pm by taking a cab.

We bought some fruits and necessities from NTUC - JEM before taking a feeder bus home. We had fruits and some light snacks for dinner before spending the rest of the night watching the Korean drama.

Day 98 - Monday

Today is the first day of RK's one week holiday and OMG, half the day was already gone coaching him on his school's elearning homework. After lunch, I had a few hours of time to doing my work while he enjoy himself silly watching snippets of videos from Youtube and playing some of his favorite online games.

The rest of the day tied in seamlessly with the daily routine and today marks the day THL and I finish watching the Korean drama series.

Day 99 - Tuesday

Apart from doing my work, some portion of the day was also spent working on testing and improving RK's grasp of the mother tongue language. His grades for the 2nd language has been nothing short of disappointing and so far I have been looking for a Chinese tutor for him without much success so it looks like I may have to send him to those commercial language school. I personally do not like such commercial schools as their fees are usually on the high side and they do not guarantee results.

I managed to catch up with my work while RK takes his afternoon nap. After dinner, we watch a movie, chosen from some stack of DVDs that THL and I bought some weeks ago. Now that we have finished the Korean drama, we may take a break and rest for a few weeks before taking on another show. We will see how it goes. :D

Day 100 - Wednesday

THL and I took the day off today to run some personal errands and THL has her medical appointment in the afternoon. We brought RK along with us since he has no school this week and with the absence of the weekend crowds, he too, enjoyed the joy of commuting and shopping around on a week day.

Food courts are not crowded, malls are almost empty, trains and buses are mostly on half capacity (besides peak hours), nice! :D

After THL's medical appointment at NUH, the 3 of us went to JEM to get some stuff for dinner before heading home.

Day 101 - Thursday

After my morning run, I was able to work on my projects for a couple of hours as RK has his tuition class scheduled in the morning. This is a special arrangement since it is a school holiday week.

I was able to work without much disturbance in the afternoon with RK enjoying his favorite past times. RK stayed at home while I went over to Jurong Point around 5pm and I had a hair cut before meeting THL for dinner at the food court. We bought dinner back for RK and we took a cab home as it was raining heavily when we were on our way to the bus terminal.

The rest of the night was spent watching TV with RK around playing his new mobile games.

Day 102 - Friday

Today was the last day of RK's school holiday and he was busy working on some of the extra assignments that I gave him since Monday. And that gave me some time to work on my project. :)

The rest of the afternoon went by monotonously and the 3 of us had vegetarian stuff for dinner while watching some of the aired channels from Mediacorps.

THL and I also watch 'The Inside Man" DVD after RK went to bed at 10pm. It was an ingenious show featuring how a group of robber became super rich after robbing a bank without having the bank lost a single cent of their money.

Weekly AfterThoughts:

The one week school holiday has certainly taken it toll on the amount of time available for me to work on my projects and you may think that I could have, like other irresponsible and selfish parents, left the child alone and not care a damn about them for a bit. No, nay, not me. I am equally responsible for RK as well as my business. It is just that some times I really hope that I could have more time on my hands to handle some extra personal stuff and activities which I very much would love to do at a very personal level.

60DWCC-wise, we have totally adapted to taking public transportation and while it is taking forever for the MAS to pass down the new ruling, we are no longer in the hurry to see it materialize.

5 Weeks Post 60DWCC - Another Korean Drama Marathon & 13th Wedding Anniversary (ROM)

THL and I have been busy lately. We have been collating a list of Hong Kong and Korean dramas to watch over the next few months. Now that we are finally at the last few episodes of 功夫状元 , in order to prevent another melancholy attack, we have already gotten ready the next set of drama to watch. LOL. The new drama shall be revealed later inside this post. Watch out for it. :D

Day 89 - Saturday

I went for a run this morning, thanks to the delicious dinner at MOF last night. Although it is not really that sinful a meal, it has inevitably provided me with more "carbo" than I really need for my age.

After breakfast, THL and I continued our pursue of the last few episodes of 功夫状元 after sending RK to his tuition class. We lunched in today for obvious reason and we finally finished that HK drama at around 430pm. Phew...

As for dinner, we decided to take a shuttle bus from West Gate to IMM. After walking around for a bit, we finally set our foot into Bali Thai, a restaurant that we have not eaten in for ages.

Another reason why we are here at IMM is to shop for the 2nd anniversary gift (ROM version) for each other. We have 2 anniversary dates to remember, thanks to the different dates for both ROM and hosting of wedding dinner. LOL.

After we reached home, THL and I watch our next drama series. It is a Korean drama series that features a middle aged not-good-looking man (man in white) that got duped and revenged on by his wife who was a victim of his parents' wrongdoings a couple of decades ago.

That man later went for a painful plastic surgery and he managed to reclaim back everything, thanks to his new handsome look (the guy with the black shirt on the left). Interesting show, isn't it? :D

Day 90 - Sunday

Although it was a Sunday morning, the 3 of us woke up rather early and we went out for breakfast at our nearby coffeeshop. After that we went to the video rental shop that is closing down soon to cherry-pick some discounted DVDs.

THL and I spent the afternoon doing household chores. She also spent some time gift-wrapping RK's goodie bags that are to be given to his classmates on his forthcoming birthday. THL cooked lunch and we watch some TV programs together with RK.

As for dinner, THL and I went down to buy back as we already need to get some necessities from the nearby provision shops. We resumed our watching of the new Korean drama after RK went to bed.

Day 91 - Monday

Another routine Monday that makes time flew by so quickly that before I knew it, it was already time to fetch RK home. As usual, the afternoon times are typically spent coaching him on his homework and upcoming spelling tests and what not. I could only resume my work after he goes for his afternoon nap.

We went down to Jurong Point in the evening to meet up with THL for dinner. We had Pepper Lunch for dinner and since it was our anniversary today, we also bought home a cake from Prima Deli. We took a cab home after getting some necessities from NTUC.

The rest of the night was spent having a 8th year old amateur photographer taking pictures of us showing off our anniversary gifts (an annual family ritual) and cutting of our cake. Last but no least, we manage to catch an episode of the Korean drama before going to bed.

Day 92 - Tuesday

A typical day that flew by without any special happenings besides us watching our favorite Korean drama series.

As the PSI index is on the rise lately, THL and I have already equipped our family with masks in case the haze decided to visit Singapore early this year. :D

Day 93 - Wednesday

Another monotonous day working at home while taking on the role of a Penguin Dad.

The watching of the Korean drama series continues....

Day 94 - Thursday

As it was already the last day of school before the 1 week school holidays, THL and I helped RK bring down his big bag of goodie bags to his school. He was so happy that it is finally his turn to distribute goodie bags in celebration of his birthday.

After that THL and I had breakfast at the nearby food centre before she left for work and with me taking a bus home.

We had dinner with THL's family this evening and we took a cab home since it was already quite late into the night. We were both tired but that did not deter us from catching a few episodes of the Korean drama.

Day 95 - Friday

As RK has no school today (elearning day), THL and I decided to make a trip down to JB - City Square.

We had breakfast at KFC (JEM) before taking bus 160 down to Woodlands Checkpoint. From there, we went through the checks before taking another bus into Malaysia custom. As it was a weekday, there wasn't much of a queue and so the entire trip to City Square was super smooth.

We indulged ourselves with foods and drinks across a few food outlets and we eventually had our proper meal at Sushi King at 3pm.

After the stomach-bursting meal at Sushi King, the 3 of us went back to Singapore holding on to our heavy stomach. Again, the journey back was also smooth except for the time spent waiting for the bus back to Singapore.

The 3 of us were so full that we decided to skip dinner and we only had a bit of a finger food at around 9pm while watching the Korean drama.

Transport Expense (Day 89 - 95): $46.35

Woodland Checkpoints to JE Interchange = $1.51 x 2 + $0.58 => $3.60
JE Interchange to Home => $0.73 x 2 + $0.36 = $1.82

Weekly AfterThoughts:

This week has certainly been a bad week for our stomachs. We have had quite a few good and heavy meals across the last 7 days and while all these food has little to no effect on RK who has very high metabolism, they have certainly weighted both THL and I down a few pounds. :D

Taking the public transport has certainly become second nature to us now and we have not been splurging on Taxi too. While taking public transport has its disadvantages, the financial benefits of not owning a car (at this point in time) have certainly far outweigh it.

4 Weeks Post 60DWCC - Another Week of Drama Serial Marathon

Since we completed the Korean drama serial a couple of weeks ago, life has not been easy for THL and I. We have been watching the "repeat" (currently being aired on Channel U) of it from time to time to help reminisce certain parts of the drama series. Well, this week, we have been hot on the heel of another Hong Kong drama serial 功夫状元 and it seems like we have got past the Korean one and we are now in love with the HK one. LOL!

Day 82 - Saturday

It has been a while since the 3 of us take a long distance bus out to malls that are far away. The term 'faraway' has never sounded so right before when we were still a car owner. This is because we used to be able to easily reach the furthest end of Singapore (think Changi Airport, Pasir Ris) within 30 minutes (on average) by car but now that we are taking SBS buses, it could take as long as 2 hours (includes transferring over to connecting bus or train) to reach the same far flung destination.

Anyhow, we took a feeder bus to Jurong East for brunch before taking a long distance one to Parkway Parade. We have not been to Parkway Parade since we sold our SUV and this is our very first trip there by bus. Wow...it was honestly quite feat by itself since the entire journey was almost 75 minutes. If not for it being an air conditioned bus, the 3 of us would have threw up and lost consciousness along the way.

Few hours later, after we are done with our retail therapy at Parkway Parade, we walked out towards Katong 112 and again we spent another hour there doing our "rounds". When it was almost dinner time, we began to slowly stroll along Joo Chiat road looking out for special or new restaurants/coffee shops to have dinner.
After close to 25 minutes of walking, we chanced upon a coffee shop that sells porridge as well as a huge varieties of cooked food. We decided to give it a shot since we were already hungry and the food looks really delicious.

We were glad we ate there as the food was really nice although it was a little expensive. After our dinner, we continued our exploration around the vicinity and we got lost after a short 30 minutes. We had to re-trace our steps and walked back to the junction near the coffee shop where we had dinner. We then waited 20 minutes for a bus that took us to Kembangan MRt station. From there we took a train to Pasir Ris and then switch over to one that headed all the way back to Jurong East.

We alighted at Jurong East and took a feeder bus home. After we washed up, THL and I continued our pursue of our new love - the HK serial drama 功夫状元. :D

Day 83 - Sunday

Today is another stay home Sunday and THL was kind enough to make the 3 of us both breakfast and lunch. The entire afternoon was spent watching 功夫状元 after we are done with the usual household chores. The 2 of us went out for dinner around 730pm.We bought dinner back for RK.

Needless to say, we again devoted the remaining part of the evening watching 功夫状元.

Day 84 - Monday

THL was down with stomachache early in the morning. While she blamed the dinner we ate last evening at Joo Chiat road, she was the only one that had it. Anyway, she went to see doctor and was given a medical certificate to rest at home for a day.

Complaint from RK's form teacher

The teacher called when I was about to start my daily work and she informed me that RK has not been doing the Math homework and corrections that were given to him weeks ago. She suggested making him stay back after school to have him finish up everything and I agreed. It is time RK be held responsible for his actions. Time for him to grown up, ya?

At 2pm, THL and I went for lunch at the food centre before heading to RK's school to fetch him. I continued working on my project after fetching RK home. With RK doing his homework and THL resting, I was able to fully focus on my work. :D

But my happiness was short-lived as it was dinner soon and with THL cooking dinner for us and RK was pulling my hair and playing his role as a doctor to give me a "health checkup" every 15 minutes. Sigh...

Day 85 - Tuesday

It has been a rather productive day for me and I was able to finish my work around 4pm. With more than 2 hours to spare, I spent some time playing with RK.

THL and I bought dinner home and we spent the rest of the evening watching 功夫状元 with RK watching his favorite Youtube video using my iPad.

Day 86 - Wednesday

Today was another typical day at home. I helped RK revised through his Math worksheets and workbooks in the late afternoon as he is having Math test the next day.

The 3 of us met up at JEM for dinner at CookHouse (Foodcourt at the 6th floor of JEM) before sending RK off for his tuition.

Day 87 -Thursday

Another day spent watching 功夫状元 in the evening with THL while RK indulged himself watching Youtube video.

Day 88 - Friday

RK and I meet up with THL at Jurong Point for dinner at 615pm. We had dinner at MOF in celebration of both RK's forthcoming birthday as well as our 11th year anniversary. RK had his great serving of sushi while THL and I had Spaghetti and Japanese Ramen as our main dish.

After dinner, we bring RK down to a provision shop to get some chocolates and sweets as gifts for his classmates.

RK slept at 10pm while THL and I continued our pursue of the 功夫状元 until 12 midnight.

Day 82: $13.80

Bus Ride:

Jurong Point to Home => $0.83 x 2 + $0.41 = $2.07

Total Post 60DWCC expenses from Week 1 to Week 4 => $114.67

Weekly Afterthoughts:

We are definitely spending more time at home compared to few months back when we were still owning a car. Although we are no longer spending a lot of time outside aimlessly seeking retail therapy these days, we are still traveling to far away malls once in a while.

The total transport expenditure of $114.67 (lowest ever in the history of 60DWCC) from the past 4 weeks after the 60DWCC is enough to suggest that we should hang on to taking the pubic transports for a while more. :D
